🕦 Duration
Your photoshoot will last 3 hours.
📸 Quantity
You'll have to shoot as many single dishes as possible and one dish composition during the span of your assignment (3h).
Please make sure to confirm with the on-site contact that he will prepare the necessary number of dishes for the shoot (at least 80% of the menu) when you confirm the appointment with them.
⚠ Attention ⚠:
You need to leave a comment on the assignment page in these cases:
- The restaurant couldn't prepare all the dishes
- You didn't have the time to shoot all the dishes
- The restaurant didn't have enough dishes on the menu

Light background (simple texture or solid color)
Lighting & Background
💡Soft Lighting
Natural & soft light from left or right
Avoid hard shadows
Avoid backlight and reflection
How to avoid lightening issue
Use only one main light source
Place the reflector on the opposite side of the light source to soften the shadow (Don't stick it too close to the subject to avoid creating a second shadow).
If you don't have a natural light source, use the restaurant lights. But place the shoot in a place where there are no multiple light sources facing each other (to avoid multiple shadows)
📜 Light Background
Light and simple texture background (white marble, cement, white wood) that make the dishes pop-up
⚠️ Do not show the separation line between the table and the wall (use a big vertical background, or try to shoot on a big table to not show the demarcation line).
⚠️ If you use a big vertical background for both wall and the table, it should look natural & realistic (no wooden background rolled on the wall, for example)
⚠️ Do not use all black or all white background, nor dark and rustic surfaces with heavily defined patterns, such as dark wood or some heavy pattern marble.
⚠️ Do not use dish/plate with a pattern
⚠️ Use the same background for single the "single dish" photos and the hero shot
Single Dish Photo
🍛 Single dish photos are composed of a single main dish centered
in the frame captured at 0 or 90°.
📐 Angles
90° (top view) or 0° (front view) depending on the type of food/product.
90° (top view) for general dishes, pizza, pasta, traditional cuisines, etc (...)
45° for coffee and layered foods such as cakes and desserts
0° (front view) for burgers, wraps sandwiches, sushi and packaged products
0° or 45° for drinks - please choose the most suitable angle for each type of drink!
(If the drink is in an non-transparent cup, take at 45° by removing the cap to be able to see the inside)
🎯 Capture instructions
Preferably using round plates rather than square ones as this creates a more symmetrical image
Do not use same photos for different dishes on the menu even this was requested by the onsite contact as this can lead a re-shoot request. Kindly ask them for more dishes to photograph to avoid any issues
Take photos only in landscap format (Vertical photos will be refused)
Take images without restaurant packaging to make them look more appealing
Do not use any accessories, cutlery, or props, the food is the star of the photo and always needs to be shown in front
Take horizontal/landscape orientation images
Make sure to clearly show the ingredients, especially for burgers, sandwiches, and rolls (you can open the sandwiches to perform the shoot)
Do not place the food directly on the background, always use a plate or a napkin (do not use a wrapping paper with some logo on it
Capture in the photo, the item that the consumer will receive
if the photo illustrates a menu, capture in the frame all the elements of the menu
if the photo illustrates a side dish, include only the side item (e.g; fries)
⚠️ These instructions are also mandatory for flower stores (Only landscape format)⚠️
Tip: Ask for the names of the dishes and verify them with Hungerstation profile of the restaurant to make sure all the dishes are named correctly, and the products you photograph are actually on Hungerstation website
Dish Composition (hero) Photo
🍱 A dish composition photo is used to shocase a collecton of the best dishes that a restaurant has to offer, it is composed of at least three main dishes (this is mandatory), where one of the main dishes is placed in the center of the composition, then the others are placed next and around the center for a captivating shot.
📐 Angles
90° (top view), 45° or 0° (front view) depending on the type of food/product.
90° (top view) for general dishes, pizzas, plates of pasta, traditional cuisines, group of bread, etc (...)
0° or 45° for groups of drinks, burgers, sushi/maki, packaged products, desserts, etc (...)
🎯 Capture instructions
Anticipate the ratio 2:1
Take images without restaurant packaging to make them look more appealing
Center one dish and compose your frame by placing other items around it
Make sure to clearly show the ingredients, no decorative props
Balance the composition with food spread out equally on the frame
⚠️ Hero Shoot is the most important photo of the package and we cannot deliver any mission without one
