How to schedule a photoshoot


If you are scheduling for the first time and are not sure of the correct process, please follow the instructions here to ensure that you follow the correct protocol with the business owner.


By accepting this assignment, you will be representing OCUS in the eyes of our client. We count on you to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in your coming interactions.


If a photoshoot already has an appointment scheduled, please respect this appointment and only assign yourself to the photoshoot if you are available at this time.

When and how to upload my images


Your priority is capturing excellent photos. To ensure consistency, OCUS is handling the post-production internally. Please respect the following requirements to make sure that we can deliver the best outcome to our client.

  • Don’t edit any of your pictures (no crop, no edit). - Don’t erase your metadata. - Select your best shots and don't send more files than required. - Follow the naming convention below (take some notes during the photo shoot to keep all the needed information).

NAMING

Rename all files according to this template: ○ For Single Dish: Dishname.JPG (eg: cheeseburger.JPG) ○ For Composition Shot: Hero - Merchant name.JPG (eg: Hero - McDonalds_Orchard Road.jpg) Shoots CANNOT be accepted if item names are incorrect or missing!

  • Please make sure you upload your media in the correct category. - Don’t forget to validate your assignment after uploading your files. /!\ Send your pictures the same day than the photoshoot before midnight. /!\ Keep your RAW files until your mission is validated.

PHOTOSHOOT OVERVIEW

PACKAGES Check your mission dashboard or your OCUS email notifications for package details on your mission. This tells you the number of dishes you are required to capture. According to the situation and the weather, adapt these recommended settings. Use long shutter speed if needed but don’t use too high ISO. We understand unexpected situations can arise in each shoot, so please use your best judgement.

LIGHTING

  • The use of studio flash is mandatory for this type of photoshoot.

  • You also need to use a reflector to brighten shadows on the opposite side of the studio flash.

  • No strong shadows.

  • Neither backlight nor reflection on the product.






Single Product

Product photos are composed of a single product centered in the frame shot on white background. Products can include but not limited to groceries, pet shops, florist, butchers.


  • Set a 20° angle by default for most products


Quantity

Refer to your OCUS Dashboard for the quantity.


Do

  • Center the product and anticipate the client crop ratio. Ratio to anticipate (1:1) - Products must be as sharp as possible. - Ask for the names of the products, you will need it when you name your files. - If no front and back is definable, please try to display the product in the best way possible.

  • Meat must be placed on a plate, table or dish on a white background using artificial lighting. Shoot at 20° ° degree angle.

  • Flowers must be entirely on frame (no cropping bouquet).

  • The background needs to be pure white and clean of dust, stains or dirty.


Don't

  • Do not photograph elements/products that won’t be delivered to the customer.

  • Do not frame too close from the product, remember the final crop we're going to apply.

  • Do not shoot more or less than the correct quantity.

  • Do not shoot on anything else than pure white background.

  • Do not show hands in the frame.

  • Shutter Speed - 1/150

  • 50-110mm (full frame)

  • Aperture > f/8 - f/11

  • ISO 100 max.

  • WB: 5500 K

  • Tripod, studio flash, Reflector, gray card.

  • Horizontal/0°

Good examples

Hero shot

The Hero shot is the first photo of the business that the users of the app are going to see before when they are looking for something to order.


It's composed of a main product surrounded by other products and decorative props in a small quantity and related to the theme of the business. A minimum of 5 products is required for this type of photo.


Quantity

Depending on the offer. Check out your Ocus Dashboard on each assignment.


Do

  • Place a product in the center, then others around it (check the visual examples below).

  • Use a 90° angle for all business types, 45° remains an exception depending on the best looking of the product.

  • Play with the colors of the items to make the visual more attractive.

  • Leave little space between the products, so the composition looks plentiful.

  • Remember to compose your photo with enough room, so OCUS can apply a 1:1 crop ratio and keep the other products visible.

  • The background needs to be pure white and clean of dust, stains or dirt.


Don't

  • Do not show any hands in the frame.

  • Images should NOT contain text, price, Watermark, link, etc.

  • Products should NOT be less or more than product’s original size.

  • DO NOT add props not included.

  • 35-50mm (full frame)

  • shutter speed - 1/150

  • Aperture > f/8 - f/11

  • ISO 100 max.

  • WB: Manual, try to get natural tones

  • Tripod, Reflector

  • Horizontal/90°

Tips

Team work makes the dream work! You can guide the onsite contact to best display the products and make them look as appealing as possible. Pay attention and be detail-oriented: any imperfections will show up and look like the product is messy or incomplete. Collaboration is the key to a successful assignment.
